About

SelectMe is a link selection box for PageLines DMS. You add it to your page or post template to make it easy for your visitors to copy the link to the post, page, custom post type single view, archive page, etc. I like to use it for displaying the short link to the post, but maybe you’ll prefer displaying the full link. Yeah, visitors can already copy their browser’s address bar, but that might be cluttered with code from your newsletter, Twitter, etc. If your shortcode includes tracking metrics for clicks (e.g. bit.ly), you probably want them to share your shortlink. However you choose to use it, simply displaying it to your visitors invites action. You can also customize the leading text to drop an even stronger hint, like “Send to a friend, or else…” ;-) Options include showing shortlink, showing permalink, and customizing the leading text. Global and local DMS options are included. You can even animate its appearance. You can see the SelectMe section in use on this page. Hope you like it, and thanks for your purchases!

Customizations

Once you own SelectMe, you might want to customize its appearance. Here are some ideas:

Custom border and shadow colors

If you want to override the border color or shadow color of the SelectMe select box once the visitor clicks it, just customize the rgba values in the code below.

No Border and No Shadow

You could also choose to remove the border and/or shadow (for regular display, for :focus display, or for both). The following code will remove the border and shadow for both.

Custom Select Box Selection Colors

You could also choose to remove the border and/or shadow (for regular display, for :focus display, or for both). The following code will remove the border and shadow for both.

Custom Width of the Select Box

If you have a long shortlink or choose to display the permalink, you may want to force the select box to be a bit wider.

If you’re not sure how wide your links tend to be, change the width to something like 500px and then use the Chrome Page Ruler extension to get it near pixel-perfect.

Copy to Clipboard

Q: Can the link/text be automatically copied to the visitor’s clipboard? A: I’ve decided not to include such functionality because copying to clipboard isn’t as straight-forward as you might think. It doesn’t work on mobile because the initial selection itself doesn’t work on mobile and because most copy to clipboard solutions involve a bit of Flash, which doesn’t work on iOS.
